Focus on

Creating Screenz Live

When Covid began, Screenz pivoted to develop a platform for online live events that anyone can view from home. From rock shows to lectures, both live and VOD, collaborating with Eventer that would also sell the tickets for the live events.

It was the CEO of Screenz, the CEO of Eventer, and I – all three of us sat down to make this dream a reality.

Focus On Screenz Live
1
Understanding the Product

After several meeitngs we came up with a vision, Screenz Live is a combination of two things:

    1. A place where you can buy tickets for online events, mostly lectures and live shows. We wanted it to feel like a local version on MasterClass, where you can learn things and better yourself.
    2. All the content that was broadcasted live can also be viewed later as VOD. We wanted a big rich smooth VOD browsing experience, similar to Netflix.

Competitors Research

First, I studied the browsing and viewing experience of MasterClass and Netflix, to understand their smooth and abundant feel.

I also studied thoroughly the viewer/performer experience on many broadcasting services: TikTok, Facebook Live, Instagram, Twitch and YouTube, both on PC and mobile. I came to understand which features and solutions would work well for Screenz Live.

3
Understanding the Flows

There are two major flows to understand here: the viewer/browser flow, and the performer/broadcaster flow. I dove into both flows, making sure that every step makes sense, and that everything works as a whole.

Discussing it with the CTO, we came up with a Stage URL solution – each event will have a URL for its “stage”, and each ticket will generate its own unique URL for the viewer. I mapped out the features available in each state of the stage: before the show, during, and after.

4
Creating the UX

After approving the flows and the technical feasibility, it was time for me to create the detailed specs and wireframes.
I poured all the features we’ll need inside, every tool the performer would need, and every engaging activity the viewers would want.

I created detailed specs, that cover every edge case and flow, and Screenz Live started to feel like an actual product. We already knew that the brand would be dark, so I used dark colors for the wireframes.

Stage UX Improvements

The stage itself turned out too heavy and dark, we wanted to lighten things up for the viewer. I gave it another shot, this time making the stage lighter and dynamic.

Now it was ready for the graphic designers and the developers.
